Lake Mills Elementary School Parent Resources
Lake Mills Elementary School uses two kinds of reporting for student progress:
1. "Just In Time" progress reports given to parents at the end of each unit of study:
- Math Individual Profiles of Progress (IPP): Our math team simplified our IPPs that are sent home at the end of each unit to make it more clear to parents how students are performing at the end of each unit of study.
- Writing Checklists: We heard from parents that the simplicity of our writing checklist was helpful in knowing how their child was performing so we are not making changes to that format at this time. We are including writing samples on our website to help parents have an example of what proficiency looks like at each grade level and within each writing genre. Additionally, we are continuing to investigate an online portfolio system so that parents have electronic access to their child's writing. This is proving to be a long-range goal that we are hoping to accomplish next school year.
- Reading Progressions: 3rd and 4th grade will be sending home reading progressions at the end of each unit of study to highlight where your child is performing with examples of what that looks like in their reading. The progression also lets you see what happens before and after their current level of performance.
2. Electronic Semester Report Cards:
- Reading: Reading grades will be delivered via an online report card in Skyward. You will also receive a couple of ideas on how you can help support your child's reading growth at home.
- Lifelong learning skills, art, music, and physical education wil all be reported on the same online report card. This report card will be easier to read than the previous report card that included many pages of information.
