Students are appointed a teacher their freshmen year that will be with them throughout their high school career. Students will be in their advisor’s classroom during this scheduled daily time. The first five minutes is allocated to communicating the daily announcements. Advisory is an opportunity for students to connect with one teacher on a regular basis. During this time, students may talk with their advisor, catch up on homework, get assistance with homework, pick up missed work, check on grades, attend club meetings, etc. Tuesdays and Thursdays are allocated for Social/Emotional Learning and Academic & Career Planning activities. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, students SHOULD NOT leave their advisor’s room and there are no club meetings.
Expectations of Students
- Listen to announcements
- See teachers for make-up work after absence or sign advanced make up form prior to absence
- Communicate with advisor and check on grades
- See teachers for help on assignments, when needed
- Use hallway pass to access bathroom or locker (good for 2-3 minutes)
- Use pass or signed planner for legitimate teacher visits
- Use time well; attend club meetings and/or keep up on homework/studying
- Engage in our Tuesday/Thursday activities as assigned
Expectations of the Teacher
- Read Daily Bulletin aloud and post on the SMART Board
- Provide opportunity for students and parents to connect with teacher
- Supervise preparation and maintenance of students’ graduation portfolio
- Require pre-signed pass or planner for student to leave room or call teacher to verify student location
- Follow directions in announcements for Tuesday and Thursday activities
- Complete SEL & ACP activities that include the Method Test Program
